italki teachers apply as a Community Tutor or a Professional Teacher and, once approved, set their own per-lesson rates for students worldwide. Community tutors focus on conversation practice; professional teachers need formal teaching credentials. Lessons happen over italki Classroom, Zoom or similar video tools, so a webcam, microphone and stable connection are required. italki's commission depends on lesson type: trial lessons are free, single lessons cost 21%, and larger packages drop to 15%. Applications are reviewed within 10 business days and must be started on a computer.
